چکیده

plasma renin activities (PPA) were measured before treatment and 5 weeks and 10 weeks after the beginning of the administration of the above-mentioned diet. The data were compared with those of non-treated age-matched SHR controls. Each group consisted of more than 8 SHRs and blood samples were taken immediately after decapitation. PCA was measured by double isotope derivative method and PRA by bioassay method. Occasional blood pressure (BP) measurements were done by the tail-pulse-pickup method.

A vasoconstrictor response to COX-1-mediated prostacyclin synthesis in young rat renal arteries that increases in prehypertensive conditions.

This study aimed to determine whether prostacyclin (PGI2) functions as an endothelium-derived contracting factor (EDCF) in young rat renal arteries, and, if so, we wanted to examine the underlying mechanism(s) and how it changes in prehypertensive conditions. Vessels from Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) and prehypertensive spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) of 25-28 days of age were isolated for functio...

Resistant hypertension, case based approach to diagnosis and management: case report

Background: Resistant hypertension is defined when the blood pressure remains elevated above the therapeutic target levels despite the use of three antihypertensive agents including calcium channel blocker (CCB), renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blocker and a diuretic. These drugs should be used at maximally tolerated doses and white coat effect and non-adherence should also be excluded. In this ...

Effect of angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitory peptide from rice dregs protein on antihypertensive activity in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

BACKGROUND Angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptide has good effect on blood pressure regulation. Therefore, research to find and develop safer, effective and economical ACE inhibitors is necessary for the prevention and remedy of hypertension. So food-derived ACE inhibitory peptides isolated from food or from enzymatic digestion of food proteins are the safe and efficient subst...

Improvement of vascular insulin sensitivity by downregulation of GRK2 mediates exercise-induced alleviation of hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Exercise training lowers blood pressure and is a recommended nonpharmacological strategy and useful adjunctive therapy for hypertensive patients. Studies demonstrate that physical activity attenuates progression of hypertension. However, underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Vascular insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction plays a critical role in the development of hypertension. The pre...

Maternal supplementation with citrulline increases renal nitric oxide in young spontaneously hypertensive rats and has long-term antihypertensive effects.

NO deficiency is associated with development of hypertension. Defects in the renal citrulline-arginine pathway or arginine reabsorption potentially reduce renal NO in prehypertensive spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Hence, we investigated genes related to the citrulline-arginine pathway or arginine reabsorption, amino acid pools, and renal NO in 2-week-old prehypertensive SHRs. In additi...
